CSC: Can you recall the exact moment when you realized the importance of Judicial Services?
Swapan Deep: Yes it was August 2008 when I realized the same after hearing that one of my senior has got selected in U.P. Judicial Services.
CSC: You must have read topper’s interviews in newspapers/magazines; what inspired you the most? Any particular success story which influenced your journey to this result?
Swapan Deep: There are so many stories and it is very hard to recall any particular story.
CSC: Was JSE a planned decision or your parent’s wish? Did you keep in mind some time frame, for the examination preparation and number of attempts?
Swapan Deep: It was my parent’s wish. I knew that cracking this exam is a journey and not a one day job and all you need is the proper guidance and to have patience.
CSC: Describe the exact moment when you came to know about the importance of Judicial Services?
Swapan Deep: I left preparation in 2011 and got occupied in my work and in year 2018 I again started preparing for the same.
CSC: About Interview Boards, many candidates have set impressions. Do you consider such thoughts help or hinder one’s performance in Interview?
Swapan Deep: Yes, It is true as per my experience it is not the test of your knowledge or what you have learnt by studying in 3 or 4 years but it is the test of your whole personality which you have built up in 35 years.
CSC: What was your first step when you were really serious about making a career in Judicial Services?
Swapan Deep: First of all I planned my studies in accordance with the previous year examinations, I studied the pattern of the examination and started my studies accordingly.
CSC: In how many attempts have you achieved this success? How do you visualize your preparation/previous attempts?
Swapan Deep: It was my second attempt in UPHJS exam. In my first attempt I qualified till mains but couldn’t crack the same though that was a very learning experience for me.
CSC: While the changing economic environment offers immense lucrative career opportunities in various sectors, still what kept you motivated towards Judicial Services?
Swapan Deep: Judicial Services is the only institution in which people still have faith and it is an institution in which one can deliver justice to each and everyone.
CSC: What’s important and what’s not? Share your thoughts and opinions.
Swapan Deep: In my opinion, the quotation which Alok Sir always used to say that “Law is nothing but common sense”, one should remember the same so that he can understand the law in its actual sense, and should study according to the demand of the examination.
CSC: List some of the Magazines, Newspapers, Books, etc. which you read for ‘General Studies’ preparation.
Swapan Deep: The Hindu newspaper, Civil Service Chronicle Magazine, Lucent News events, and many more.
CSC: How did you prepare yourself for Interview? When and which Board did you face? How did your interview go on? How much time it lasted and what were the questions asked during the Interview?
Swapan Deep: I decided that I will remain calm and present myself as I am. I faced the board in which I had justice D.K. Upadhayay and Justice Yashwant Verma. It was a nice experience and my interview lasted for 15 minutes, and question asked were about myself and some from practical knowledge of law.
CSC: According to a recent report published by reputed survey agency, Civil Service Chronicle is the largest read Career & Competition magazine. What is your opinion?
Swapan Deep: Yes, Civil Service Chronicle helps very much in preparation.
CSC: What is the secret of your success?
Swapan Deep:Consistency, patience, parents’ wishes and excellent guidance of Alok Sir. Sir always taught me that learn how to study. I always remember his saying that ‘don’t jump to the conclusion but reach to it.’
CSC:To whom would you like to give the credit for your success?
Swapan Deep: My parents, my wife, my daughter, my friends and my mentor Alok Sir.
CSC: Any suggestion/advice you would like to give to the future aspirants
Swapan Deep: Follow the directions given by your mentors and keep studying and appearing in examinations so that you can get experienced and get selected.
