  • These soil are not very fertile and is used in cotton growing, rice cultivation, wheat cultivation, pulses growing, cultivation of tea, growing coffee, growing rubber, growing coconut and growing cashews.
  • Most of the time these soil are used to make bricks due to presence of large amounts of iron. Laterites are a source of aluminium ore; the ore exists largely in clay minerals and the hydroxides, gibbsite, boehmite, and diaspore, which resembles the composition of bauxite.
  • The chief minerals in irrigation water are chloride, sulfate, bicarbonate, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.
