The Great Himalayas
All along the northern boundary of India is one of the youngest and loftiest mountain chains of the world popularly known as the Himalayas. They are known as one of the loftiest mountain chains because more than 14 peaks of the Himalayas are more than about 8000 meters above sea level. Also they are known as one of the youngest mountain chain because of its period of orogeny. Himalayan orogeny started only 65 million years ago. It is not yet finished- the height of Himalayas is still rising on an average of 1 cm each year according to experts.
