On 11th April, 2024, South Korean scientists announced the development of a high-energy, high-power hybrid sodium-ion battery.

- Sodium, abundant and cost-effective compared to lithium, emerges as a promising candidate for sodium-ion battery technologies, aiming to overcome limitations faced by existing energy storage systems.
- The hybrid battery integrates anode materials from batteries with cathodes suitable for supercapacitors, offering both high storage capacities and rapid charge-discharge rates.
Addressing Technological Challenges
- The challenges in developing hybrid batteries stemmed from two main issues: the slow energy storage rates of battery-type anodes and the low capacity of supercapacitor-type cathode materials.
