Employment in Unorganised Sector

Employment in the unorganized sector refers to work arrangements that lack formal regulation and protection, typically characterized by informal contracts, low wages, limited job security, and absence of social benefits.

Findings from Periodic Labour Force Survey

  • As per the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) of 2017- 18, the total employment in both organized and unorganised sector in the country was around 47 crores.
  • Out of this, around 9 crores are engaged in the organized sector and the balance of 38 crores is in the unorganized sector.
