Project Sashakt: Sunil Mehta Panel Report On Non Performing Assets (NPAS)

  • Sunil Mehta committee on bad loans resolution has recommended a five-pronged strategy - Project Sashakt - to deal with Non-performing Assets in country’s banking system.
  • The five-pronged strategy includes – SME(Small and Medium Enterprises) resolution approach, bank-led resolution approach, AMC(Asset Management Company)/AIF(Alternative Investment Fund) led resolution approach, NCLT(National Company law Tribunal)/IBC(Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code) approach, and asset-trading platform.
  • Banks will be required to create a Focused Vertical for bad assets below Rs 50 crore and set up a Steering Committee for resolution of such bad assets within 90 days.
