​India’s First Freight Village

  • India’s first freight village is being developed in Varanasi, funded by the World Bank.
  • The aim is to support economic development in the hinterland of the multimodal terminal at Varanasi and reduce logistics cost in the Eastern Transport Corridor and its influence zone.
  • A freight village is an area where all activities relating to transport, logistics and the distribution of goods both for national and international transit are carried out by various operators.
  • The concept, prevalent in Europe, will also bring together retailers, warehouse operators and logistics service providers supplying the regional Fast-moving consumer goods( FMCG) market.
