Conference Of Parties To United Nations Convention To Combat Desertification (Unccd)
- India will host the 14th session of the Conference of Parties to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in 2019 to address the issue of land degradation and desertification.
- The UNCCD, established in 1994, has 197 parties working towards maintaining and restoring land and soil productivity and mitigating the effects of drought through national action programs that incorporate long-term strategies supported by international cooperation and partnership arrangements.
- The only convention stemming from a direct recommendation of the Rio Conference’s Agenda 21 , was adopted in Paris, France on 17 June 1994 and entered into force in December 1996.
