Sensor to Track Disease Progression
- In April 2024, researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur developed a nano-sensor that can detect cytokines, a group of proteins that regulate cells, to track disease progression.
- The sensor uses semiconductor technology and Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) to detect diseases within 30 minutes.
- The goal of the sensor is to reduce mortality rates caused by delayed diagnosis and lack of early warnings.
- Cytokines are biomarkers of inflammation that play a role in tissue damage repair, cancer progression, and immune reactions.
