New Spider Species Discovered in Tal Chhapar Sanctuary
Recently, an arachnologist identified a previously unknown green lynx spider species in Tal Chhapar Wildlife Sanctuary, Rajasthan.
- The species, Peucetia chhaparajnirvin, has been named after the discovery site in Tal Chhapar.
- The green lynx spider was found camouflaging on the green leaves of the Vachellia nilotica (babul) tree, utilizing its colouration to ambush prey and its long legs for swift movement.
- Nocturnal by nature, these spiders feed on small insects, adapting to extreme climatic conditions in the sanctuary, characterized by hot summers and cool winters.
