Recent Developments
The Russian President visited India in December 2021 and exchanged ideas on how bilateral trade in agricultural goods, fertilizers, and pharmaceutical products could be encouraged further. On 7 September, 2022, Prime Minister of India virtually addressed the plenary session of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum attended by the Russian President.
Background
- In 1947, India established diplomatic relationship with Russia (erstwhile USSR).
- India's relationship with the Soviet Union grew strategically and resulted in the Indo-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, August 1971.
- In October 2000, “Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership” was signed.
