Recent Developments
The 117th meeting of the Permanent Indus Commission (PIC) was held on 1-3 March, 2022, in Islamabad and the 118th meeting of the PIC was held on 30-31 May, 2022, in New Delhi.
- In 2022, the Government of India facilitated the visit of around 73,000 pilgrims to the holy Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan through the Kartarpur Corridor.
Background
- India and Pakistan have fought three major wars (1947, 1965, and 1971) and one proxy war (1998-99) since 1947.
- Visits of pilgrims between India and Pakistan are facilitated under the 1974 Bilateral Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines.
