Uniform Civil Code (UCC)
Need
- Tedious Diversity: The multifarious castes and creeds and their sets of beliefs or practices are bewilderingly confusing and nowhere is a scenario like in India, of various personal laws jostling together, allowed.
- Equality: Uniform Civil Code will in the long run ensure Equality. While other personal laws have undergone reform, the Muslim law has not. For example, it perhaps makes little sense to allow Muslims, to marry more than once, but prosecute Hindus or Christians for doing the same. Therefore, there is the demand for a uniform civil code for all religions.
