Need
- Poor Infrastructure in the North-East: The North-East region is lagging behind due to a lack of investments, inadequate infrastructure, geographical isolation, and inefficient use of natural resources, among other factors.
- Economic Importance: From 2014–15 to 2018–19, NER's gross state domestic product (GSDP) expanded at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9%. Due to NER, India ranks fourth in the world in terms of tea exports. NER produces more than half of the tea produced in the country. As a result, the development of the NER is one of the Indian government's priorities.
