Iron Excavation in Tamil Nadu
Recently, iron implements unearthed from excavations in Mayiladumparai in Tamil Nadu have revealed that the Iron Age in Tamil Nadu dates back 4,200 years.
- Mayiladumparai is an important site with cultural material dating back between the Microlithic (30,000 BCE) and Early Historic (600 BCE) ages.
- Before Mayiladumparai, the earliest evidence of the use of iron in Tamil Nadu was found at Mangadu near Mettur in the Salem region, dated to 1510 BCE.
