Rationale

  • Male Migration as a Result of Rural Distress: Men are migrating either to or from metropolitan regions. Within communities, they work as non-farm workers in construction, brick kilns, mills, or as drivers, carpenters, teachers, and other occupations. This is due to the fact that non-farm jobs in villages pay better than agriculture and related services.
  • Women have Less Mobility: Due to societal conventions, women are more likely to remain in villages and hence in agricultural work, while socio-cultural patriarchal norms hinder them from working in non-agricultural jobs such as brick kilns.
