Government forms Panel to Review EWS Quota
On 28th November 2021, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced the formation of a three-member committee to review the criteria for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) reservations.
Former Finance Secretary Ajay Bhushan Pandey will head the committee.
Rationale behind Panel Formation
- The decision came after the Supreme Court closely questioned it on how it arrived at the income figure, while considering a challenge to the implementation of 27% reservation for the Other Backward Classes and 10% for the EWS under the all-India quota for medical admissions.
