National Health Mission
The National Health Mission (NHM) was launched in 2013.
- It encompasses two Sub-Missions- National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and National Urban Health Mission (NUHM).
- It was further extended in March 2018, to continue until March 2020.
Need
- Shortage of Medical Workforce: Shortage of medical workforce viz. doctors, nurses, paramedics, in India remains rife despite measures adopted by the government aimed at bridging the skill gap in the sector.
- Low Level Public Expenditure on Health: As per the latest available National Health Accounts Estimates (2016-17), Government Health Expenditure (Centre and States) was 1.2 percent of GDP.In comparison, nations classified as Lower Income Countries ....
