Bulgaria and Romania Get Full Membership in Schengen Zone
On 12th December 2024, the European Union officially granted Bulgaria and Romania full membership in the Schengen zone, ending a 13-year wait for the two countries.
- Starting 1st January 2025, both nations joined the borderless area, allowing unrestricted travel within the zone.

- Historic Decision: After more than a decade of waiting, Bulgaria and Romania will fully integrate into the Schengen zone, a major milestone for both countries and their citizens.
- A Shift in Austria’s Stance: Austria, which had previously blocked their full entry over migration concerns, announced it would not veto their membership during the EU ministers' meeting.
