Vedic Period (1500-600 BC)

The period is known as Vedic period due to composition of Vedas during the period. The "Vedas", are essentially a compilation of prayers and hymns, offered by different families of poets and saga to various gods.

Early Vedic Period/ Rig Vedic Period (1500 BCE – 1000 BCE)

  • Society: The Early Vedic society was tribal and basically egalitarian. Clan and kinship relations formed the basis of the society and family (kula) was the basic social unit headed by Kulapa. Social divisions based on occupations had started but there was no caste division.
