The Peshwas (1713-1818)
Peshwa was the appointed Prime Minister by the Maratha King to administer the affairs in his name. Balaji Vishwanath was made the first Peshwa by King Shahu of the Maratha Empire.
Balaji Vishwanath (1713-1720)
- Balaji Viswanath began his career as a small revenue official and became Peshwa in 1713. Subsequently he made the post of Peshwa hereditary.
- He played a crucial role in the civil war and finally made Shahu as the Maratha ruler.
- He succeeded in getting recognition from Mughal King Farrukh Siyar, for Shahu as the Maratha King.
