- Researchers at the University of Michigan have developed a catalyst material called Cobalt Phthalocyanine that converts carbon dioxide, a major factor in climate change, into renewable fuels like methanol.
- This approach offers a sustainable way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, also providing an opportunity for clean energy production.
- Cobalt phthalocyanine acts as a molecular hook for CO2 or CO molecules. During their study, scientists found that the problem is that cobalt phthalocyanine binds much more strongly to CO2 molecules than it does to CO molecules.
