NAL Achieves Breakthrough with Solar-Powered High-Altitude UAV Prototype
Recently, Bengaluru-based National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) successfully conducted a test flight of a solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), called High Altitude Pseudo Satellite (HAPS), showcasing its potential to revolutionize surveillance and monitoring capabilities.
HAPS Technology Overview
- The prototype UAV, designed by NAL, operates solely on solar power and can soar to heights of about 20 km, offering extended endurance in the air.
- HAPS vehicles, categorized as high-altitude long-endurance (HALE) vehicles, are envisioned for surveillance, monitoring, and disaster management applications.
