India to Send Woman Robot Astronaut 'Vyommitra' to Space
Recently, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology informed that India plans to launch 'Vyommitra,' a female robot astronaut, into space ahead of the Gaganyaan mission.
- The uncrewed mission is slated for the third quarter of this year, preceding the manned Gaganyaan mission in 2025.
- 'Vyommitra' derives its name from Sanskrit words meaning 'space' and 'friend,' reflecting its role as a companion in space.
- Equipped with advanced capabilities, 'Vyommitra' can monitor module parameters, issue alerts, and execute life support operations autonomously.
