United Nations had released WOA 2 on April 23rd, 2021, which follows an initial report (WOA-1) published in 2015.
About World Ocean Assessment Report
- The Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment is a global mechanism established by the United Nations General Assembly following the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development.
- In 2015, the first World Ocean Assessment was completed.
Key Findings
- Population expansion and demographic changes, economic activity, technological breakthroughs, changing governance arrangements, and geopolitical instability are the most significant drivers affecting the maritime environment and its long-term viability.
