MAHSEER

The Blue-Finned Mahseer, which was on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) red list as ‘critically endangered’, has now moved to the ‘least concern’ status.

About MAHSEER

  • The Mahseer (basically translates as "tiger among fish" from mahi – fish and sher – tiger). It's a crucial indication of freshwater ecosystem health.
  • The Mahseer has 47 subspecies, 15 of which are found in India and the remainder in other South Asian countries.
  • For breeding and migration, Mahseer prefers clean, fast-flowing, well-oxygenated waters. They eat everything.
  • Threats Faced: Sensitive to dissolved oxygen levels, water temperature, and abrupt climate changes; pollution, habitat loss, ....
