Dark Matter Shapes Galaxies
Scientists studying how the shape of dark matter impacts the velocity of stars in the centre of some galaxies (stellar bars) recently discovered that out-of-plane bending in barred galaxies can be described by dark matter halos.
Buckling is a rare violent bar thickening mechanism that occurs when the bar bends out of plane in barred galaxies.
The dark halo of invisible material (dark matter) that pervades and surrounds individual galaxies, as well as groups and clusters of galaxies, is known as a dark halo.
