Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Act, 2019
A bill seeking to expedite and streamline resolution of inter-state water disputes was approved by the Lok Sabha. It amends the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956.The Act provides for the adjudication of disputes relating to waters of inter-state rivers and river valleys.
Key Provisions of IRWD Act, 2019
- Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) to be set up by the Central Government, would be referred to once a dispute arises, to resolve it amicably by negotiation within a year (with an extension of six months).
