Central Information Commission

The Supreme Court in a landmark verdict in February 2019 ruled that Central Information Commissioner should have the same status as that of Chief Election Commissioner.

  • The Central Information Commission (CIC) is a statutory body constituted under the Right to Information Act, 2005. The jurisdiction of the Commission extends over all Central Public Authorities.
  • The CIC looks into the complaints made to it and decides the appeals. It entertains complaints and appeals pertaining to offices, financial institutions, public sector undertakings etc under the Central government and Union territories.
