City Compost Scheme

The City Compost scheme was launched on 10th February 2016 by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.

Recently, under the City Compost scheme, assistance of Rs 1,500 per tonne of city compost was provided to fertilizer companies for marketing and promotion of city compost.

Why Introduced?

  • To Promote Appropriate Disposal Mechanisms for Solid Waste Management: India currently produces close to 1.5 lakh tonnes of solid waste every day and its biodegradable fraction ranges between 30 per cent and 70 per cent for various Indian cities.
