New Population Policy of Uttar Pradesh
On 11th July, 2021, Uttar Pradesh government released the state’s new population policy, which aims to reduce its growth rate to 2.1 per cent over the next 10 years.
- The new policy is being prepared after studying several reports, including the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)-04.
- The unveiling of the policy comes days after a draft of the population control bill was released by the state law commission.
Objectives
- Increase modern contraceptive prevalence rate from 31.7% to 45% by 2026 and 52% by 2030.
- Increase male methods of contraception use from 10.8% to 15.1% by 2026 and 16.4% by 2030.
