Karnataka Govt. pulls gears up to promote over 40 GI Products
Karnataka State Geographical Indications Policy aims to promote and market the more than 40 registered GI products from the State.
- Some GI handicrafts like Udupi sarees, Navalgund durries etc have only a few families to carry on the craft due to shift amongst generation to other more lucrative or sustainable jobs.
- Artisans and farmers do not get the right price as consumers are unaware of the amount of time and labour that goes in producing each product.
- Awareness about these products will help farmers and artisans to take interest in their protection
