Rajasthan gears up with a Law Against Mob Lynching
The Rajasthan legislative assembly passed ‘The Rajasthan Protection from Lynching Bill, 2019’ on 5th August. With this, Rajasthan became the second state after Manipur to have a law against mob lynching.
Provisions
- Makes mob lynching a cognisable, non-bailable and non-compoundable offence punishable with life imprisonment and a fine up to Rs 5 lakh in cases of victim’s death. The convicts will get jail terms up to 10 years and a fine of Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 3 lakh in case of an assault by mob or victim suffering serious injuries.
