Global Climate and the SDGs: Understanding the Interconnections
On 22nd September, 2021, the World Meteorological Organization released a report titled, ‘Climate Indicators and Sustainable Development: Demonstrating the Interconnections’. The report demonstrates the interconnections between the global climate and the SDGs, which go far beyond SDG 13 for climate action.
Key Highlights
- Climate Indicators: The WMO studied seven climate indicators — CO2 concentration, ocean acidification, global mean surface temperature, ocean heat content, sea-ice extent, glacier mass balance and sea-level rise.
- Rising CO2 Concentration: WMO’s scientists found that rising CO2 concentration due to human activities was a key driver of global climate change.
