Blue Flag Eco-label and BEAMS
- India has sent a formal request for consideration of its eight beaches by international jury for the coveted International eco-label called as the Blue Flag certification under Blue Flag Programme.
- The Blue Flag beaches are considered the cleanest beaches of the world.
Blue Flag Programme
- The Blue Flag Programme is operated by the Foundation for Environmental Education, headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark and seeks to promote sustainable development in freshwater and marine areas.
- It challenges local authorities and beach operators to achieve high standards in the four categories of:
- Water Quality,
- Environmental Management,
- Environmental Education and
- Safety.
