Water Resources, Pollution and Conservation
- Annual precipitation in India has been estimated at about 4000 billion cubic metres (bcm) and the water resources potential is 1869 bcm. Per capita annual water availability in India was about 1544 cubic m in 2011, which has now further fallen due to rise in population Fig: India’s Water Resource Scenario
- The water budget derived from Ministry of Water Resources estimates shows utilizable water of 1123 BCM against current water use of 634 BCM. The Standing Subcommittee of the Ministry of Water Resources estimates total water demand rising to 1093 BCM in 2025.
