MACS 4028: Biofortified Wheat Variety
Scientists from Agharkar Research Institute in Pune- an institute under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India- have developed MACS 4028, a biofortified durum wheat variety that has high protein content.
- With superior and stable yielding capacity, MACS 4028 is resistant to stem rust, leaf rust, foliar aphids, root aphids, and brown wheat mites. It also has sufficient amounts of many micronutrients.
- The variety can help alleviate malnutrition in a sustainable way and boost the Government’s Vision 2022 “Kuposhan Mukt Bharat”, that is, the National Nutrition Strategy.
