Brexit Date Postponed by European Union
- The European Union (EU) has granted two weeks extra time i.e. until 12 April, 2019 to the United Kingdom for implementing Brexit (Britain’s withdrawal from the EU). The deadline for Brexit was earlier fixed at 29 March, 2019.
Historical Underpinnings
- In a referendum in UK in June, 2016, those favouring Brexit (Leave) won by 52% to 48% (Remain) and the exit date was fixed at 29 March 2019.
- In 2018, the UK and the EU agreed to the terms of the exit, known as the withdrawal agreement.
