Indian Data Relay Satellite System

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is planning to launch Indian Data Relay Satellite System (IDRSS)- a set of two satellites for real time tracking and space communication purposes.

  • The satellites, belonging to the 2000 kg class, will be placed in geostationary orbits (GEO) at an altitude of 36,000 km from the earth’s surface.
  • To be launched by Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), the first satellite is scheduled towards the end of 2020, preceding the pre-Gaganyaan experimental unmanned space flight which will have Vyommitra- a humanoid robot.
