REIWA
- On April 30th 2019, the current Japanese Emperor Akihito will abdicate the crown, ending the Heisei era which started in 1989 after Akihito’s coronation and the new era ‘Reiwa’ would commence.
- The year 2019 will be split between Heisei, until the end of April, after which it will become Reiwa, the first year of the new Emperor elect, Naruhito’s rule. Reiwa means ‘auspicious’, ‘orderly’ or ‘harmony’.
