Julian Assange Arrested from Ecuador Embassy in London
- Julian Assange, the founder of ‘Wikileaks’ was arrested on 11thApril in London by the British police from the Ecuadorian Embassy on behalf of US authorities under an extradition warrant.
- He had undertaken shelter/asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy since 2012 as:
- US had issued arrest warrant against him for releasing classified US military and diplomatic secrets.
- His extradition was sought in 2012 by Sweden over allegations of sexual assault but the case was closed by Sweden in 2017.
- He has been accused of aiding Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election by publishing stolen emails.
