WTO’s Appellate Body may be Dysfunctional
- The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) appellate body could become dysfunctional on December 11, 2019 as it will get reduced to just one member instead of full seven members or minimum three members required to continue its work.
- This is a result of the United States’ blocking the appointment of members on the pretext of its assumption that WTO is biased.
- The Appellate Body of WTO is a standing body of seven persons that hears appeals from reports issued by panels in disputes brought on by WTO members.
