Parliament Passes Bill to Extend SC/ST Reservations in Legislatures
Parliament passed the 126th Constitution amendment bill 2019 to extend quota to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in Lok Sabha and state assemblies by another 10 years. However, it excluded the provision of reservation for Anglo- Indians for the time being.
- The Constitution provides for reservation of seats for SCs and STs and representation of the Anglo-Indian community by nomination, in Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies of states.
