SCO Summit, Bishkek 2019 reiterates Shanghai Spirit
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit held at Bishkek, Kyrgystan.
Important outcomes of the summit
- The SCO Heads of State Council committed themselves to follow the Shanghai Spirit that embodies mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultations, and respect for the diversity of cultures and a striving for joint development. Shanghai Spirit was the driving motive behind ‘Shanghai Five’, the predecessor to SCO.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi undermined unilateralism and trade protectionism pursued by some countries and called for a rules-based, anti-discriminatory and all inclusive WTO-centred multilateral trading system.
