US Seeks to Rejoin UN Human Right Council
- On 7th February, 2021, the newly elected Biden administration announced its intention to rejoin U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) that former President Donald Trump withdrew from in 2018.
- The Trump administration accused the Council of beingbiased against Israel and had members who were human rights abusers.
Human Rights Council
- Based in Geneva (Switzerland), the Human Rights Council is an inter-governmental body within the United Nations system responsible for strengthening the promotion and protection of human rights around the world.
- The Council was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 2006. It replaced the former United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
