Revised Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme

On 5th March 2025, the Union Cabinet, approved the revision of the Livestock Health and Disease Control Programme (LHDCP) with an outlay of Rs.3,880 crore for 2024-25 and 2025-26.

  • Revised Programme Components: The scheme includes two primary components—National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) and Livestock Health & Disease Control (LH&DC)—with a newly introduced Pashu Aushadhi component.
  • LH&DC Sub-Components:
    • Critical Animal Disease Control Programme (CADCP)
    • Establishment & Strengthening of Veterinary Hospitals and Mobile Veterinary Units (ESVHD-MVU)
    • Assistance to States for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCAD)
  • Pashu Aushadhi Initiative: A provision of Rs.75 crore has been allocated to improve access to quality and affordable generic veterinary medicines, distributed through PM-Kisan Samriddhi Kendras and Cooperative Societies.
  • Disease Prevention Focus: The programme targets the prevention of major livestock diseases, including foot and mouth disease (FMD), brucellosis, peste des petits ruminants (PPR), classical swine fever (CSF), and lumpy skin disease through vaccination, surveillance, and healthcare upgrades.
