Revised National Programme for Dairy Development

On 19th March 2025, the Union Cabinet approved the Revised National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) with an additional Rs.1,000 crore, raising the total outlay to Rs.2,790 crore for 2021-26.

Key Points

Dairy Infrastructure Boost: Focus on milk chilling plants, testing labs, certification systems, and cooperative expansion.
Support for Remote Regions: Special emphasis on the North East, hilly areas, and Union Territories to enhance milk procurement.
Dairy Cooperatives Expansion: Formation of 10,000 new Dairy Cooperative Societies and two new Milk Producer Companies (MPCs).
International Collaboration: "Dairying through Cooperatives (DTC)" implemented with Japan’s JICA in nine states.
Employment & Economic Impact: Over 18.74 lakh farmers benefitted, with 30,000 jobs created so far; projected to add 3.2 lakh more jobs.
Advanced Dairy Technology: 51,777 village milk testing labs, 5,123 bulk milk coolers, and 169 FTIR-equipped labs established.
Sector Growth: Increased milk procurement by 100.95 lakh litres/day, improving rural incomes and women’s participation.
