Union Cabinet Approves Revised Rashtriya Gokul Mission

On 19th March, 2025, the Union Cabinet approved the Revised Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) with an additional Rs. 1,000 crore, raising the total allocation to Rs. 3,400 crore for the 2021-26 period.
Key Points
- New Initiatives: A 35% capital cost subsidy for Heifer Rearing Centres and a 3% interest subvention for loans on High Genetic Merit (HGM) IVF heifers.
- Artificial Insemination Expansion: Over 8.39 crore animals covered and 5.21 crore farmers benefitted under the Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP).
- Boost in Milk Production: A 63.55% rise in milk output over a decade, with per capita availability increasing from 307g/day (2013-14) to 471g/day (2023-24).
- Advanced Breeding Technology: Establishment of 22 IVF labs, producing 2,541 high-genetic-merit calves, alongside the development of genomic chips for indigenous breeds.
- Government Focus: Strengthening artificial insemination, bull production, skill development, and establishing Centres of Excellence to enhance livestock productivity.
