R Praggnanandhaa Clinches Tata Steel Masters Title

On 2nd February 2025, R Praggnanandhaa triumphed in a thrilling tiebreaker against reigning World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh, winning the Tata Steel Masters chess tournament.

Both players, tied at 8.5 points after the final round, faced off in a dramatic tiebreaker after suffering unexpected defeats in the last round of the tournament.
Gukesh lost to Arjun Erigaisi, while Praggnanandhaa was defeated by Vincent Keymer, but both managed to secure 5.5 points to stay joint leaders.
In the tiebreaker, Gukesh won the first game after Praggnanandhaa blundered and lost a full rook in the middle game.
Praggnanandhaa leveled the score at 1-1 by drawing the second game with the Trompowsky opening after capitalizing on an unforced error from Gukesh.
