Gujarat's Masali Becomes First Solar Border Village

  • 19 Dec 2024

In December, 2024, Masali village in Gujarat's Banaskantha district became India’s first fully solar-powered border village, setting a milestone in sustainable development.

  • Masali village, situated 40 kilometers from the Pakistan border, is now 100% powered by solar energy.
  • With a population of 800, the village achieved this milestone through the PM Suryaghar Yojana, which installed solar rooftops on 119 houses.
  • These solar rooftops collectively generate over 225 kilowatts of electricity, fulfilling the village's energy needs.
  • The initiative was spearheaded by the Banaskantha district administration under the Border Development Project.
  • Plans are underway to extend this solar transformation to 11 border villages in Vav taluka and six in Suigam taluka.
